Chocolate Pudding with Bananas

Chocolate pudding recipe

It's so quick and delicious one just can't resist. I don't know how many times Erich has asked me to cook this, sometimes late in the evening.

It probably doesn’t sound very healthy but containing milk, bananas and cocoa it’s actually quite a nutritious treat for growing kids and grown-ups.

Portions: 6 jelly moulds or 4 small bowls
Cooking time: 15 minutes + 4 hours to set

What's in it: Milk is an excellent source of calcium. Bananas are a great source of fibre and Vitamin B6. Cocoa contains potassium, which helps regulating fluids in our body.

Ingredients:
  • 500ml milk
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 3 tablespoons cacao
  • 3 heaped tablespoons cornflour
  • 1/2 teaspoon orange peel
  • Serve with banana slices.

Preparation:
  1. Dissolve cornflour in 50ml of cold milk.
  2. In a saucepan, heat up remaining milk with cacao, orange peel and sugar.
  3. When milk is boiling, take off the heat and quickly whisk in the cornflour milk mixture
  4. Return to heat and simmer for 1minute until it gets a thick, creamy custard texture.
  5. Pour into jelly moulds or small bowls and set aside to cool.
  6. Refrigerate if cooked the night before but take out of the fridge one hour before serving.
  7. Serve with banana slices.

Upgraded version: Try adding a piece of good quality plain chocolate. For absolute deliciousness and silky texture I sometimes also add a raw egg. To do this, whisk the egg first before adding it to the hot mixture at the end before transferring it into the bowls.

Keeps in the fridge for two days.
