Crochet Maracas

Beautiful handmade musical instruments

This is a very quick and easy crochet project suitable for beginners. Use multicolour cotton or be creative with your own colours and pattern.

You need:
  • 1.75 mm crochet hook
  • Multicolour Crochet Cotton tkt 6 (e.g. Anchor Freccia)
  • Small plastic bauble filled with rice (e.g. From Kinder surprise)
  • Toy stuffing (can be taken from a pillow)

Instructions
Note: when joining a new colour, work to last 2 loops on hook of last stitch. Draw new colour through 2 loops, then proceed in new colour.


 Begin with 3 chains (ch) 3 Ch
1st round
 3 Single crochet (Sc) in every chain (Ch) 9 Sc
2nd round
 2 Sc in each Sc. 18 Sc
3rd round
 1 Sc in next  2 Sc. 2 Sc in next Sc. 24Sc
4th round
 1 Sc in each  Sc. 24 Sc
5th round
 1 Sc in next  2 Sc. 2 Sc in next Sc. 32 Sc
6th round
 1 Sc in each  Sc. 32 Sc
7th round
 1 Sc in next  3 Sc. 2 Sc in next Sc. 40 Sc
8th round
 1 Sc in each  Sc. 40 Sc
9th round
 1 Sc in next  3 Sc. 2 Sc in next Sc. 50 Sc
10th round
 1 Sc in each  Sc. 50 Sc
11th round
 1 Sc in next  4 Sc. 2 Sc in next Sc. 60 Sc
12th – 25th round
 1 Sc in each  Sc. 60 Sc
26th round
 1 Sc in next  4 Sc. 2 Together (Tog). 50 Sc

Add toy stuffing and bauble, stuff firmly.
30th round

32nd round
 1 Sc in next  2 Sc. 2 Tog. 24 Sc
33rd  - 50th round
 1 Sc in each Sc. 24 Sc

Stuff firmly.
51st round
 1 Sc in next  5 Sc. 2 Sc in next Sc. 28 Sc
52nd  - 59th round
 1 Sc in each Sc. 28 Sc
60th round
 1 Sc in next  2 Sc. 2 Tog. 21 Sc
61st round
 1 Sc in each Sc. 21 Sc

Stuff firmly.
62nd round
 1 Sc in next  2 Sc. 2 Tog. 14 Sc
63rd round
 1 Sc in each Sc. 14 Sc
64th round
 2 Tog each Sc. 7 Sc
65th round
 1 Sc in each Sc. 7 Sc

Fasten off. Thread end through remaining stitches and draw tightly.
